Introduction:
Hội (group/a gathering) is an annual music festival series hosted by ALLACCESS, dedicated to the youth community and the indie scene in Vietnam. Hội takes pride in elevating the music culture by giving opportunities to young aspiring artists, while preserving the sense of the traditional gatherings in its visuals.This project is about KHAI HỘI. It is the first event of the HỘI series, held in Da Lat on the last night of 2019. With the theme of beginning, the festival hoped to wrap up the old year and kickstart a new, brighter future full of music and happy gatherings.

Logo on process:
We played with 3 letters “H”, “Ộ” and “I” in the “HỘI” word and tried to get it in a rectangle shape to illustrate the traditional rectangular stamp. However, after taking a step back and looking deeper in the meaning of a music festival, we realized there were 3 main factors for a meaningful music festival:
COMMUNITY, ART & ENTERTAINMENT.
Logo on process:
Combining the three factors (COMMUNITY, ART & ENTERTAINMENT) with the Vietnamese traditional patterns, the HỘI logo has been simply done and still keeps the brushstrokes from the first logo sketch.
Community
The imagery of VIETNAMESE TRADITIONAL COMMUNAL HOUSE - This has been a place where Vietnamese people hold cultural festivals for many years. Community is the most important part of all festivals, Hội’s mission is to unite the youth with music and gathering.
Art
The imagery of VIETNAMESE TRADITIONAL INSTRUMENT - the “Đàn Cò” - Vietnamese two-chord fiddle. One of the most frequent instruments used in Vietnamese folk music.
Entertainment
The imagery of a “Lân”/Quilin’s eye from the Lion Dance - The Lion Dance is a form of TRADITIONAL PERFORMANCE, popular in China and other Asian countries like Vietnam. The dance mimics a lion’s movement with a hope to bring good luck and fortune.
Inspiration:
KHAI HỘI 2019 is held in Da Lat, Viet Nam, a highland area known for brocade weaving. The key visual for this project illustrates the brocade texture to bring the ethnic vibes as well as remind the young about the embroidery villages in Vietnam.
Pattern:
In our “weaving” process, we choose the Orange and the Purple colors to emphasize the firework night of the new year eve. Furthermore, we emphasize the patterns to illustrate 4 factors:
THE COMMUNITY, THE PERFORMERS, THE SOUND & THE STAGE.
